Bukidnon-A Beautiful Highland to Retire

Another beautiful place to retire in the Philippines is Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. Foreign expats and OFW’s will find this place cool, peaceful and very close to nature. It is just 27 kilometers south of Cagayan de Oro City or 45 minutes ride away. Although it has no white beaches to boast of, other beautiful natural spots and comforts compensate to those who love living in the highlands-fresh cool air, sweet scents of plants, rich soil for farming or gardening and no traffic hassles.

Filipino tribes residing in Manolo Fortich are Cebuanos, Boholanos, Talaandig and Higaonon who are friendly and warm people. Visayan is the major dialect but majority of the people can communicate in English.

This first class town in Northern Bukidnon has good governance based on its 2010 performance. With this kind of support from the government, we can still expect good things to happen in this area.

It is blessed with ideal climate with cool and humid air good for any types of crops. Presently, its major crop is pineapple. It is also producing corn, cassava and bananas. Other suitable pricey crops are vegetables, fruits and flowers.

Bukidnon pineapple plantation

Del Monte Philippines, Inc. Plantation is the largest pineapple plantation in the Far East. It covers the towns of Manolo Fortich, Impasug-ong, Libona and Sumilao. Americans established this plantation in Bukidnon and the cannery in Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City. Its management now is turned over to Filipinos.

Besides its plantation, it also owns an 18-hole golf course formerly for Del Monte expats but is now open to all, and is the favorite place of World Renown Golfer Frankie Miñoza. The Del Monte Clubhouse, located near the golf course, is also famous for their tender, juicy and delicious beef steak and yummy hamburgers. Its beef comes from their own cattle fattened with their organic feeds including pineapple rinds.

World Class Subdivision

The success of various Dahilayan establishments at the foot of Mt. Kitanglad has inspired the famous A. Brown Co., Inc. to develop a subdivision called Mountain Pines Farm. Because of its altitude, its cool temperature ranging from 14 to 22 degrees Celsius is comparable to New York spring. Foreign expats and overseas Filipino workers have invested in this place.

The developer encourages planting of strawberries, vegetables and apples by providing technical assistance and seedlings through its nursery. It has 24 hour security service, with natural features like ponds and trees preserved making the place ideal for horseback riding, fishing, camping, jogging and biking. The developer envisions world class subdivision with sizeable lots for elegant country homes and big gardens.

For expats and retiring OFW’s, you can consider the natural bounties Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon offers. The prospect of raising your own vegetables and fruits together with your neighbor with the environment and government supporting healthy activities/living, your retirement may be the most enjoyable one.
