It will be amiss not to mention Mr. Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, the successful Filipino boxer. His story is about a great talent that surfaced because of determination, discipline, devotion and courage. He is now called the country’s “pambansang kamao” meaning the “national fist” garnering eight world championship titles, the first ever. He has greatly helped boost the Philippine economy through his substantial monetary prizes

Famous Filipinos in the Field of Arts

We have also our own share of beauties and brains. Typical Filipinas are brown skinned with average height of around five feet. However, we have tall, slim and beautiful women who are now top fashion models and some crowned world beauty queens.

The modern version of Pinoy martial art using “arnis” or stick was popularized along with other self-defense techniques by famous artists even reaching the international movie world.

Actors and actresses abound domestically but there are half Filipinos who are now acclaimed internationally and have done great justice to their assigned roles.

Still others like musicians have made their way to singing and receiving warm applauses from international audience.

Even in the 1800’s many Filipinos had already manifested talents in writing like our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal who wrote the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Today, a long list of famous Filipino writers has already emerged.

Other famous national heroes who risked their lives for our country’s freedom were Lapulapu, Apolinario Mabini, Andres Bonifacio, Gabriela Silang and Gregorio H. del Pilar among many others.
